About Kabe
With a passion for education and a commitment to fostering a dynamic, student-centered learning environment, Kabe ErkenBrack has served as Head of School at Evergreen Country Day School since 2020.
Under his leadership, the school has experienced significant growth, with enrollment increasing from 160 to 225 students. He has also overseen the construction of the Hicks Athletic and Performing Arts Center, strengthened financial reserves, and expanded innovative programs in robotics, theater, entrepreneurship, service, and outdoor education.
Kabe’s career in education spans nearly two decades. He began as a middle school special education teacher at a high-performing charter school in an at-risk area of Washington, D.C., where he was one of four educators selected to teach for President Bush. He then taught math and philosophy at The Field School, where his innovative classroom practices were featured in The Washington Post. While earning his Master’s in Education from Harvard University, Kabe interned at the Perkins School for the Blind in Boston, the alma mater of Helen Keller. He later became Head of Middle School at Vail Mountain School, where he expanded enrollment, introduced groundbreaking programs, and strengthened the school’s academic and extracurricular offerings.
Beyond his role as an educator, Kabe brings a rich and varied background—he has trained as a stonemason in Germany, performed as a Shakespearean actor, was a cliff diver at Casa Bonita, and even won national croquet championships. He is passionate about creating learning environments that inspire curiosity, resilience, and a sense of adventure in every student.
While living in Vail, Kabe met his wife Jamie, who is a teacher, mountaineering guide, and raft guide. They have two children, 8 and 2 years old, who both attend Evergreen Country Day School. When he’s not at school, Kabe serves on the Bravo! Vail Advisory Board, sits on the finance committee of the Association of Colorado Independent Schools, and enjoys soccer, playing the piano, and traveling with his family.
